Who We Are
Barrio Foto Foundation is a sociocultural organization with 19 years of experience dedicated to promoting art as a tool for social transformation. Through diverse artistic expressions such as photography, visual arts, poetry, theater, dance, music, and audiovisual production, BarrioFoto fosters values and develops creativity and critical thinking in children and adolescents from vulnerable communities.
Its work is carried out primarily in the municipality of Puerto Colombia, the District of Barranquilla, and across different territories of the Atlántico department and the Colombian Caribbean region, promoting sustained processes of artistic education, cultural inclusion, and community strengthening.
BarrioFoto understands art and audiovisual language as universal means capable of crossing borders, building identity, and opening opportunities.
For this reason, its impact goes beyond the local sphere and extends into cultural dialogue, international cooperation, and artistic exchange, contributing to a more just, sensitive, and creative childhood.
OUR WORK
BarrioFoto Foundation continuously develops cultural and artistic activities focused on the holistic development of children and adolescents. In schools in the municipality of Puerto Colombia, and every weekend at its headquarters as well as in the neighborhoods and communities it visits, the Foundation creates gathering spaces where art becomes a tool for learning, expression, and social transformation.
Through disciplines such as painting, drawing, poetry, music, photography, film, storytelling, and the creation of artistic objects, participants explore different ways of narrating their reality, strengthening their sensitivity, and discovering their creative potential. These processes promote active participation, collective work, and respect for diverse perspectives.
A fundamental pillar of this work is the conscious use of recycled materials, solid waste, and driftwood deposited by the Magdalena River on the beaches of Puerto Colombia. By reusing these elements, BarrioFoto Foundation fosters creativity, environmental awareness, and a commitment to caring for the surroundings, integrating art with sustainable practices.
Through each activity, BarrioFoto Foundation plants essential values such as a sense of belonging, self-esteem, respect for others, and environmental responsibility, contributing to the strengthening of the social fabric and the building of more sensitive, supportive, and conscious communities.
